WCC does not discriminate against any individual based on his or her sexual orientation or gender identity. Consequently, the college has partnered with the Old Dominion University Distance Learning Office (located on the WCC main campus behind Fincastle Hall) to provide a "Safe Space" for the LGBT community. ODU Site Director Doug Brown has completed the Safe Space training and is now a Safe Space Ally, as well as a member of the ODU Safe Space committee. The ODU site at WCC is one of the first distance learning sites to become a "Safe Space." "The Safe Space Committee strives to reduce homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism in the Old Dominion University community. We are dedicated to a vision of a community that is open, safe, and accepting to all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning people and allies. We help cultivate this climate through awareness, education, and advocacy." (from the Safe Space website)
WCC has established a student code of conduct for the benefit of all students attending the college. Click here to read more.
