WCC Dental Education and Career Fair happening now! Drop by the Wytheville Meeting Center, Ballroom C, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. today to meet with dentistry professionals and WCC dental hygiene and dental assistant students.
Wytheville Community College is pleased to share that as of today, WCC now offers free tuition for recent graduates of all areas of WCC’s service region!! The Smyth County Board of Supervisors and Smyth County Community Foundation have approved the Smyth County Promise Scholarship Program! This new scholarship program for new Smyth County high school graduates will fund the recipients’ tuition to attend WCC or Virginia Highlands Community College. Any 2023 Smyth County High School senior may apply for the Smyth County PROMISE Scholarship for Summer or Fall Semester 2023. Additional information about the Smyth County PROMISE scholarship can be found in this link on WCC’s website - https://www.wcc.vccs.edu/scholarships. WCC Alum Shout-Out! Tammy Hawks, (WCC 2007), was selected as the division winner for Grayson County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Hawks is a nursing instructor for Grayson County Public Schools and Wytheville Community College, and she serves on the WCC Practical Nursing Advisory Board. Hawks is now in competition for the Region 7 title. Winning would advance her to compete for the State of Virginia Teacher of the Year. On Friday, March 17, the Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) stocked Wytheville Community College's (WCC) pond with trout. WCC is proud to partner with the DWR to bring this opportunity to our Southwest Virginia anglers. For more information on the trout stocking program, or for questions about regulations, contact the DWR. Exciting news today at WCC! Wytheville Community College Pond is now part of the Stocked Trout Program. "Anglers in southwestern Virginia will now have another location to catch stocked trout as the pond located at Wytheville Community College is being added to the stocked trout program. With this water being added to the program late in the stocking season, it will only receive a total of three stockings between now and the end of June. However, beginning October 1, 2023 it will be categorized as a Class B trout water and will receive a total of five stockings for the 2023-2024 stocking season. In addition to a fishing license, anglers will be required to have a trout license to fish the pond between October 1 and June 15; anglers will be limited to the use of one rod during this period. Anglers are reminded to respect landowners and their property. This will help to ensure continued stream access, which is essential to the continuation of the stocked trout program." Linwood Holton Governor’s School, and Virginia Highlands Community College to provide a healthcare education program for high school students in Wythe, Smyth, and Washington counties, and the city of Bristol. Big news in Workforce Development! Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) and Wytheville Community College (WCC) have been awarded a $750,000 Virginia G3 (Get a Skill, Get a Job, Get Ahead) Innovation grant to expand WCC’s highly successful Power Line Worker Training program into Patrick County. Since WCC’s Power Line Worker Training program’s inception in 2017, eleven groups of students have completed the program and received the training and certifications necessary to become successful power line workers.
