WCC Jamboree returns August 15 with Bluegrass & Old Time Jamboree
The beloved Wytheville Community College (WCC) Jamboree returns after its summer break on Saturday, August 15, with an evening of traditional Appalachian music featuring The Bluegrass Kinsmen and Leftover Biscuits.
The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. in Snyder Auditorium. Music lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening of exceptional live entertainment as the WCC Jamboree launches another season celebrating the rich musical heritage of Southwest Virginia.
For more than five decades, The Bluegrass Kinsmen have been a cornerstone of traditional bluegrass music in the region. Formed in 1971 by brothers Shelby and Ebby Jewell, the band has earned a reputation for preserving the authentic sound of bluegrass while adding its own distinctive style. Throughout its history, the group has showcased the talents of numerous accomplished musicians and continues to entertain audiences with its signature harmonies, exceptional musicianship, and unwavering dedication to preserving the traditions of mountain music. Under the leadership of Ebby Jewell, the band remains an enduring favorite throughout the Appalachian region.
Leftover Biscuits is an old-time string band formed in 2021 by five seasoned musicians with a shared passion for Appalachian music. The group features Dr. Mark Handy on banjo and vocals, Joy Patton on fiddle and vocals, Roger Stamper on guitar and vocals, Tammy Martin on upright bass and vocals, and C.T. Janney providing dance and washboard rhythm. Leftover Biscuits captivates audiences with an authentic blend of traditional Appalachian music, featuring spirited dance tunes, rich vocal harmonies, and timeless melodies rooted in the mountains of Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina.
Seating for the event is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is free and open to the public; however, donations will be accepted to help defray the travel expenses of the bands.
