Town of Wytheville - Full-time Deputy Clerk

ANTICIPATED STARTING SALARY: $41,870 to $62,787 Actual compensation will be DOE/DOQ.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Deputy Clerk for the Town of Wytheville is an administrative professional who performs routine and complex clerical and secretarial work in keeping official records, provides secretarial support to various staff members and assists with the standard operating policies and procedures of the department. ENTRY LEVEL REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting and bookkeeping. Two (2) years of college preferred. Two (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience. Must have the below basic knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required, as well as basic knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, and some knowledge of accounting principles and practices. • Skill in operation of office tools and equipment. • Ability to be highly organized; ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to manage stressful situations. POSITION SUMMARY: Police Officer for the Town of Wytheville performs police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities as assigned. ENTRY LEVEL REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be currently certified as a Virginia Certified DCJS Law Enforcement Officer and be in good standing with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment. Must not have record of any felony conviction or other disqualifying criminal history. Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to read and write the English language. Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits. High school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by a two-year community college degree or vocational school training in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice administration, public administration, or work experience in a related field. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Must possess a valid Driver’s License without a record of suspension or revocation in any state that must be always kept in good standing. Ability to meet Department’s physical standards. If hired, continuation of employment will be dependent on maintaining physical standards and certification requirements. 

Must have the below basic knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 • Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Some skill in operating the tools and equipment listed. Ability to learn the Town's geography. Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. Ability to perform work that requires good physical condition. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors; Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
