The Wytheville Concert Series continues on Saturday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Kevin and Bryan Matheson, and Melia Garber will perform Mozart’s famous violin-viola double concerto, the Sinfonia Concertante. Written in 1779, it is Mozart’s experiment at blending a symphony with the concerto format and the interplay between the two equal solo instruments. German composer Max Bruch composed his double concerto in 1911 for his son, clarinetist, Max Felix Bruch and his close friend, the German-American violinist and violist Willy Hess. After the first performance, Bruch arranged the clarinet part for violin to increase sheet music sales and accessibility to more performers. This concerto is a lyrical and beautiful late romantic work that showcases the rich sonorities of both instruments.

A special addition to this concert is local music students and brothers, Finn and Cannon Smith, will perform a movement from Mozart’s Duo for Violin and Viola.

On Saturday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Kevin Matheson and Kerry Morgiewicz will perform more favorite violin concertos including Saint-Saens Concerto No. 3 in B Minor.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support the Wytheville Concert Series and the Wytheville Community College Food Bank. Wytheville Concert Series performances are presented by Wytheville Community College, St. John’s Episcopal Church, the WCC Educational Foundation, and MacDowell Music Club and are under the artistic direction of Kevin Matheson.
