Wytheville Community College (WCC) is celebrating strong momentum through enrollment growth, significant academic and workforce achievements, major facility improvements, and important institutional recognition.
These accomplishments reflect WCC’s continued commitment to student success, workforce development, and regional service. WCC has experienced enrollment growth in five of the past six semesters, demonstrating continued progress in attracting and serving students. The college’s accreditation was also recently reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees with no additional reporting required, underscoring the strength of WCC’s academic programs and institutional processes. SACSCOC also approved WCC to offer curriculum credit courses at WCC WEST in Marion, Virginia, expanding access to educational opportunities in the region. WCC has also earned national recognition. The Aspen Institute named the college one of the nation’s Top 200 community colleges, making it eligible to apply for the Aspen Prize. WCC was also one of five community colleges to be studied by Aspen for short-term workforce programs. These honors complement outstanding student performance, including a four-year 100 percent pass rate in the Associate Degree Nursing program. Workforce education remains a major area of impact for the college.
More than 140 students signed up for the recent National NC3 Signing Day event, which honors students choosing technical fields and highlighting the importance of career and technical education. WCC has invested more than $4.5 million in facilities and infrastructure to improve the student experience and strengthen operations. Projects include a new student services space; safety and aesthetic upgrades to the Smyth Hall parking lot, including EV charging areas and designated food truck spaces with water and electricity; aesthetic and safety improvements to handrails across much of Wytheville’s campus; a remodeled board room and meeting area; sound, lighting, and audiovisual improvements in Snyder Auditorium; and a new 6,000-square-foot building at WCC at Crossroads in Galax to support Firefighter and Off-Road Diesel programs.
“These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, and community partners,” said Dr. Dean Sprinkle, President of Wytheville Community College. “From academic excellence and workforce success to strategic investments in our campus and off-site locations, we are building momentum that strengthens opportunities for students and supports the communities we serve.”
Wytheville Community College, a member of the Virginia Community College System, provides accessible, high-quality education and workforce training to students across Southwest Virginia.
