Thank you for registering for the WCC Sprint for Scholarships 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 2, 2016!  We look forward to having you join us for Wytheville Community College’s second 5K to raise funds for WCC student scholarships.  The event will be held rain or shine (warm or cold)!

PACKET PICK UP:

  • Race packets will be available in Room 147 (WCC Educational Foundation Office) of Smyth Hall on WCC’s main campus in Wytheville from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p .m. on Friday, April 1.  For those who chose to pick up packets on Saturday morning, packets will be available on race day from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. No refunds will be given; however, we can transfer registration to another person in your place.
  • Sleep In participants can pick up shirts during normal business hours beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 1 in the WCC Educational Foundation Office. Shirts not picked up on Friday will be available the following week.

RACE DAY:

  • Prior to the race (at 8:30 a.m.), the WCC will be holding a ribbon cutting to dedicate the completed WCC Biking & Walking Trail.  Runners are encouraged to attend the event, but just be advised that you may see another event going on when you arrive on campus.
  • The race will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Please make sure to arrive on the race site by at least 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, as the main road to campus will be partially blocked prior to the race start.  The address is 1000 E. Main Street, Wytheville, VA 24382 for those coming from out of town.  A campus/race map is attached.  The race will begin on the WCC main campus near Carroll Hall.  Parking will be available in front of Smyth Hall.  Please note that the lower Carroll Hall parking lot will be closed to all traffic on race day.
  • ALL RUNNERS/WALKERS (including preregistered participants) need to check in at the registration table outside Carroll Hall by 8:30 a.m., even if you have already picked up your race packet!
  • Please keep in mind that pets and headphones are prohibited on the race course.  Strollers are permitted; children in strollers must remain in strollers for the entire course.
  • All preregistered participants will be guaranteed a race shirt.  Extra shirts have been ordered and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. 
  •  The course does take a few turns, which will be clearly marked.  But please pay attention to the volunteer race course marshals who will be posted along the course to make sure all runners/walkers stay on race route.
  • A water station will be located roughly halfway through the course on Community Blvd.
  • Chocolate milk (compliments of Duchess Dairy) and water (compliments of Food City), along with post-race snacks will be available to runners after the race.

We are also thankful for the many community sponsors who have helped make this race possible: First Bank and Trust, RunAbout Sports, Blue Ridge Chiropractic, Duchess Dairy Products, Design Depot, Food City, and Wythe Produce.  We will also have race day support from many WCC faculty, staff and student volunteers, the WCC Police Department, and the Town of Wytheville Police Department.
