Wytheville Community College is sponsoring its free monthly Bluegrass and Old-Time Jamboree, this time featuring performances from TrueGrass and The Whitetop Mountain Band on Saturday, March 21, 2020, from 7-9 p.m.
The Jamboree will be held in the William F. Snyder Auditorium in Grayson Hall on the WCC campus located at 1000 E. Main Street in Wytheville.
The TrueGrass Band performs music from the golden years of bluegrass music, including music by Jimmy Martin, Flatt & Scruggs, and Bill Monroe. The group includes Wayne Thomas on banjo and vocals, Stan Massie on bass and vocals, Jack Wells on mandolin and vocals, Paul Catron on fiddle and lead vocals, and Donny Prater on guitar.
The Whitetop Mountain Band is a family-based band from the highest mountains of Virginia. Whitetop is an area rich in the old-time music tradition; this band has deep roots in mountain music that will get you on your feet dancing. The band includes Emily Spencer on banjo and vocals; Martha Spencer on guitar, fiddle, banjo, and vocals; Kilby Spencer on fiddle; Ersel Fletcher on guitar and vocals; and Debbie Bramer on bass.
Doors to the Snyder Auditorium will be open at 6 p.m., with music beginning at 7 p.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to help defray the travel expenses of the bands.
