The Workforce Development Center
It is the vision of the WCC Workforce Center to become the primary resource in the college's service region for workforce development, skills enhancement, customized training and Work Keys services. Working in partnership with business and industry, economic development, school systems and others, the Center will provide quality workforce development activities which will result in a well-trained and skilled workforce which meets the needs of today's employers and tomorrow's job challenges.
The Challenge
- The National Association of Manufactures states that the most serious problem facing today's industry is finding and keeping a qualified workforce
- 75% of all job applicants are rejected as unqualified
- 80% of the workers in 2010 are working now but lack the skills for the jobs that will be available in 2010
- Technology in the workplace is growing exponentially which requires increasingly higher skill levels in the workplace
- Companies in the WCC service area are competing with other companies both nationally and internationally in a global marketplace
- Workers in the WCC service area are competing with workers in Europe, Asia, Mexico, South America, Eastern Countries and Third World Countries in a global marketplace
- The companies in the WCC service area are competing with each other for the qualified workers in the area
Training Locations
Using state-of-the-art technology, the WCC Workforce Center trains clients on the main campus of Wytheville Community College or our regional centers, the Crossroads Institute and the Smyth County Education Center. In order to better serve you, these same customized services can also be provided at your work location.
