WCC Forensics Team Participates in CFA Holiday Tournament
King Places 1st in Poetry

The Wytheville Community College Forensics Team recently participated in the Collegiate Forensics Association (CFA) Holiday tournament held in Middletown, Va.  The tournament was hosted by Lord Fairfax Community College on Dec. 1-2, 2017.

WCC students Travis King and Christian Lindsay competed on behalf of WCC.  King, of Bland, Va., placed first overall in the Poetry Interpretation event.  Lindsey, of Marion, Va., competed in the Persuasive Speaking and Impromptu Speaking categories.  WCC competed against students from two- and four-year colleges and universities in Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Florida.

The CFA hosts debate and forensics events for college students in the Eastern United States.  The WCC Forensics Team is open to all students currently enrolled at WCC and aims to provide opportunities for students to practice skills in oral interpretation, public speaking, and oral presentation.  The team plans to compete again at the CFA Southern Excursion Tournament at Gaston Day School in Gastonia, N.C., on February 16-17, 2018.

The WCC Forensics Team is sponsored by Denita Burnett, WCC Administrative Assistant to the President, and Dr. Janice Pryor, retired WCC faculty member and current WCC theatre director.  For more information about the WCC Forensics Team or how to join, please contact Burnett at (276)223-4769 or email
