WCC Announces New Support to Veterans through Credits2Careers Online Tool

Veterans and military students will have an easier time earning credit for prior learning thanks to a new online tool created by Virginia’s Community Colleges. The Credits2Careers (C2C) academic and career portal is available to Wytheville Community College (WCC) military and veteran students and will allow them to upload their Joint Services Transcript to see instantly how many academic credits their work experience could translate into more than 1,700 community college programs.

C2C is designed specifically for prospective military and veteran students. It will provide these students with multiple academic pathways to apply their previous education and experience towards programs prior to applying to a Virginia Community College System (VCCS) institution such as WCC.

The portal also provides real-time employment information by providing access to a comprehensive, national database of jobs that enables veterans and service members to explore civilian careers related to their area of expertise or interest.

This personalized virtual counseling tool will provide military-connected users to easily and quickly create a portfolio starting with their military experience. Students can also instantly get an estimate of their credit for prior learning awarded from any VCCS college of their choice based on the information in the electronic portfolio.

With an estimated 850,000 veterans residing in Virginia, Virginia’s veteran population is the fifth largest population in the nation. Many transitioning military members and their families will look to one of the 23 Virginia community colleges, including WCC, as the most easily accessible and affordable educational options available.

WCC and the VCCS both recognize the need of prospective and existing military members to have a web-enabled, cloud-based platform that will allow for an always-on lifecycle resource for military affiliated learners to discover, explore and embark on education pathways for lifelong career success. This new portal can be accessed online at
