Scholarship Process
You should also read the Scholarship Checklist which gives a checklist for students.
All students who are enrolled for a minimum of six semester hours are eligible to apply for scholarships through the Wytheville Community College Educational Foundation, Inc. and the Wytheville Community College Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
Foundation scholarships are available for Fall and Spring Semesters each year. Awards for Spring Semester are made during the previous Fall Semester, and application forms are available in September and must be completed and returned by October. Awards for Fall Semester are made during the previous Spring Semester, and application forms are available in March and must be completed and returned by April.
Specific application deadline dates are published each semester in the Daily Bulletin and on this web site. Forms are available in the Foundation Office (Smyth Hall), the Financial Aid Office (Bland Hall 221), in the library (Smyth Hall), at various locations around campus, and at the Crossroads Institute and the Smyth County Education Center. Application forms are available in the Scholarship Application section, but you need Adobe Acrobat Reader. The scholarship application is also available online at http://www.wcc.vccs.edu/foundation/onlineform.php
Each available scholarship has its own set of criteria on which it is awarded. Many scholarships require that the student be eligible for federal financial aid. This is determined through the WCC Financial Aid Office and does require that applicants have a completed financial aid file at WCC. (Financial Aid applications may be obtained in the Financial Aid Office.) Failure to complete a financial aid file prior to the scholarship application deadline may result in students not being considered for scholarships that require financial aid eligibility. A statement concerning whether or not the student must be eligible for federal financial aid in order to receive a scholarship is included with each scholarship description in the Scholarships Listing.
Besides financial need, some scholarships are designated for students who reside in the college's service region which includes the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth (Marion and eastward), and Wythe, and the City of Galax. Many scholarships may be restricted to a particular academic program, to a specific geographic region, by academic grade requirement, and/or other criteria. Scholarship applicants are considered for all scholarships for which they meet the established criteria.
The Scholarships Listing contains a brief description of the criteria for each scholarship. Please note that this is a master list of scholarships managed by the Foundations, and not all scholarships will be available each year. The semester(s) indicated is when each scholarship is generally available. Completed applications should be submitted to the Foundation Office in Bland Hall 239 by the announced deadline each semester. Unless otherwise stated, scholarship recipients are selected by the Wytheville Community College Financial Aid Committee which includes faculty, staff, and administrators from various areas of the college. All applicants are notified as to whether or not they have received a scholarship.
