DL Programs @ WCC
What is Distance Learning?
Distance Learning courses at WCC allow you to participate in a course without having to come to campus to attend class. There are several flavors of Distance Learning courses available at WCC:
World Wide Web (Online) courses: Instruction for these courses is online using the internet. Most courses are taught using Blackboard, but may also include the World Wide Web, PowerPoint, special software, listservs, and email. The course may require proctored examinations or activities (such as science labs) on campus. World Wide Web courses are identified by section numbers 95 - 98.
Elluminate courses: These courses use Elluminate, a web-conferencing application, for course delivery. Classes meet at a scheduled date and time, but students can attend from anywhere they have access to an internet connection and web browser. Headsets are required for communication with the instructor and other students. Elluminate courses are identified by section number 95E.
Hybrid courses: Instruction for Hybrid courses is primarily online using Blackboard, but there are also required on-campus class meetings.
Compressed (Two-way) Video courses: Compressed (or Two-way) video courses allow students to attend classes being taught from the WCC campus without physically being on campus. Compressed video courses are broadcast to:
- The Crossroads Institute
- Smyth County Education Center
Compressed video courses are identified by section numbers that contain the letters "GV" or "SV". "GV" sections are held at the Crossroads Institute and "SV" sections are held at the Smyth County Education Center.
