Adding a Discussion Forum

To create a Discussion Forum, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard.  Select the course.
  2. Click on the Discussion navigation button.
  3. Make sure the Edit Mode is ON.  (If Edit Mode is Off, click on Off to toggle to On.)
  4. Click the on the “Create Topic” button in the upper left corner.
  5. Complete the Forum Information.  (Name is a required field. )
  6. Select forum Availability.
  7. Select Forum Settings.  Include Points possible if the discussion is a graded assignment.
  8. Click Submit to post your Discussion Forum. You can look at the forum by clicking on the title of the forum.

Reply to a Discussion Board Thread

To reply to a thread in a discussion board, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard
  2. Select your course from the Course List
  3. Click the Discussions link on the left hand navigation.
  4. Select the Forum to which you would like to respond to a post.
  5. Select a Thread from the Forum page.
  6. Select Reply.
  7. Fill out the Message area of the form.
  8. When you are finished, select Submit.
  9. Your submitted Reply will appear underneath the Thread to which you replied.

Create a Discussion Board Thread

To create a thread in a discussion board, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard
  2. Select your course from the Course List
  3. Click the Discussions link on the left hand navigation.
  4. Select the Forum to which you would like to post. The Forums were created by your instructor.
  5. Select Create Thread from the Forum page
  6. Fill out the boxes. The Subject is required, and will be the name of your thread. The body goes underneath Message. You can format the body of your thread similarly to Microsoft Word or your email.
  7. When you are finished, select Submit.
  8. Your submitted Thread will appear on the list of threads.
