How to Grade an Assignment

Grading an Assignment

When you use the Blackboard Assignment tool, a column is automatically created for this assignment in your Grade Center.  To grade a submitted assignment, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard and select your course.
  2. From the Control Panel, go to the Grade Center and click on right arrows to go to the Evaluation Overview page.
  3. Select Grade Center.
  4. Use the horizontal scroll to get to the column for the assignment you wish to grade.
  5. To download the assignment to your desktop for grading, click the down arrows at the right edge of the column.
  6. From the menu, select Assignment File Download.
  7.   Select the students whose assignments you would like to download.  (The top checkbox selects all.)   Then click Submit.
  8. Click the link for Download Assignments Now.
  9. Click Save to save the assignment on your computer.  Select a location and enter a name for the zip file as you would to save any file to your computer.   Once the zip file is downloaded and saved, you may open it to grade assignments without being online.
  10. To grade an assignment online, in the Grade Center, hover mouse over the cell for the assignment that you want to grade to see the menu.  Ungraded assignments will have an  in the cell. Select View Grade Details.

  11. On Grade Details screen, scroll to Attempts and click Open Attempt.
  12. On the Grade Assignment page, under Review Current Attempt, read student’s submission, comments, locate and click on the student’s attached file link.
  13. Under Grade Current Attempt, input Grade, add brief feedback in the Comments box, and use Attach File to upload graded assignment to return to student or upload other document.
  14. Click the Submit button at the top or bottom of the screen to save the entered grade.  This grade will show up in the Grade Center.  If you are not finished grading and would like to continue working later, click the Save as Draft button.

How to Edit an Assignment

Editing an Assignment

To add an Assignment, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard and select your course.
  2. Select the content area where you want to place the assignment and click on that navigation button.
    (examples – Course Documents,  Course Information, Assignments, or other content area)
  3. Make sure the Edit Mode is ON.  (If Edit Mode is Off, click on Off to toggle to On.).
  4. Click on the chevrons (down arrows) beside the title of the assignment you wish to edit to get the menu.  Click on Edit.
  5. On this screen you can make changes in the Name and Color, Attach File, remove Attached Files, change Grade,  Availability, Due Dates and Recipients.
  6. When editing is finished, click Submit button at the bottom right or top right of the screen.
  7. To delete an assignment, click on the chevrons (down arrows) beside the title of the assignment to get the menu.  Then click Delete.
  8. Answer OK to the question in the pop-up box.

Adding an Assignment

To add an Assignment, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard and select your course.
  2. Select the content area where you want to place the assignment and click on that navigation button.
    (examples – Course Documents,  Course Information, Assignments, or other content area)
  3. Make sure the Edit Mode is ON.  (If Edit Mode is Off, click on Off to toggle to On.).
  4. Hover your mouse over Evaluate.  Then click on Create Assignment.
  5. Complete Name  ( a required field) and Instructions for the assignment.
  6. If needed, Attach File.  (This is much like adding an attachment to an email.)  Complete Grading by adding the total Points Possible for the assignment.  (This is a required field.)
  7. Set assignment Availability.  To limit availability, click on the box next to Display After and Display Until.  Include dates and times. (Click on calendar and time icons for assistance.)
  8. If desired, set provision for submission of Late assignments. By entering a due date here, you can override your availability dates and any assignment submitted after this date will be marked as late in your Grade Center.
  9. Select Recipients.
  10. Click Submit when finished.

How do I submit an Assignment in Blackboard?

Assignments

To upload a class assignment:

  1. Log into Blackboard
  2. Select your course from the Course List
  3. Navigate to the Assignment location. It may be under Content, it may be elsewhere.
  4. Select the Assignment that you wish to complete
  5. Fill out the form.
  6. When you have completed your assignment, select Submit
  7. You can check the status of your submission from the MyGrades page.
