Adding an Announcement

To create an announcement follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard and select the course.
  2. Go to the course Control Panel.
  3. Click the Course Tools link.
  4. Click the Announcements link.
  5. In the upper right corner ensure that the Edit Mode is  ONIf not click Off, to toggle it to ON.
  6. Click the Create Announcement button.
  7. Type the Announcement’s Subject and Message.
  8. Select availability and notification Options.
  9. To link a content area into the Announcement, click on the Browse button to select location in the course.   Then click on the area to be linked. (Clicking on the + front of an item expands the item.)

  10. Click the Submit button

How to Add a Discussion Forum

Adding a Discussion Forum

To create a Discussion Forum, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard.  Select the course.
  2. Click on the Discussion navigation button.
  3. Make sure the Edit Mode is ON.  (If Edit Mode is Off, click on Off to toggle to On.)
  4. Click the on the “Create Topic” button in the upper left corner.
  5. Complete the Forum Information.  (Name is a required field. )
  6. Select forum Availability.
  7. Select Forum Settings.  Include Points possible if the discussion is a graded assignment.
  8. Click Submit to post your Discussion Forum. You can look at the forum by clicking on the title of the forum.

How to add an Assignment

Adding an Assignment

To add an Assignment, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard and select your course.
  2. Select the content area where you want to place the assignment and click on that navigation button.
    (examples – Course Documents,  Course Information, Assignments, or other content area)
  3. Make sure the Edit Mode is ON.  (If Edit Mode is Off, click on Off to toggle to On.).
  4. Hover your mouse over Evaluate.  Then click on Create Assignment.
  5. Complete Name  ( a required field) and Instructions for the assignment.
  6. If needed, Attach File.  (This is much like adding an attachment to an email.)  Complete Grading by adding the total Points Possible for the assignment.  (This is a required field.)
  7. Set assignment Availability.  To limit availability, click on the box next to Display After and Display Until.  Include dates and times. (Click on calendar and time icons for assistance.)
  8. If desired, set provision for submission of Late assignments. By entering a due date here, you can override your availability dates and any assignment submitted after this date will be marked as late in your Grade Center.
  9. Select Recipients.
  10. Click Submit when finished.

How to add a Content Item

Adding Content Item

 (You should follow these instructions to upload your syllabus to a content area.)

 To add item to a content area, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard.  Select the course.
  2. Click on the content area (Syllabus, Course Information, Assignments, Course Documents, etc.).
  3. With Edit Mode on, click the Create Item icon. (If Edit Mode is Off, click on Off to toggle to On.)
  4. Enter a name for the document into the Name field. (This is a required field.)
  5. Enter a description into the Text box. (This is optional but recommended.)
  6. To change the color of the name, click on the down arrows and select color.  Then click on the apply button.
  7. To attach your syllabus or other item or link to an item in your content collection, go to Attach or Link Content. 
    Click Browse to select the file to attach and specify a name for the link to this file.  (This is much like attaching a file to an email.)
  8. To make content available and to set other options, go to Options.
    A.  Select Yes or No for Permit Users to View Content Item.  In order for students to access the item, Yes must be selected.B.  Select Yes or No for Track Number of Views.

    C.  Select Date and Time Restrictions as desired. If you only want the content available for a specific time, be sure to also check Display Until and put in the date that you want the content to cease to be available to your students. Leaving this box unchecked leaves the content always available.  Ignore this section if you want content continuously available.

  9. Click Submit when finished.

How to add folders

Adding Folders

To add a folder in a content area, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log into Blackboard and select the course or organization in which you will be working.
  2. From your navigation bars, click on the CONTENT AREA where you want to add your folder: (Syllabus, Course Information, Assignments, Course Documents, etc.).
  3. Be sure that Edit Mode  is on.(If Edit Mode is Off, click on Off to toggle to On.)
  4. Hover the mouse over Build to get the menu.  Then click on Create Folder.
  5. Type the Name and a short description of your folder.  Click on Color icon to change color of name.
  6. Select availability Options.  Click Submit.
