May 11, 2012 in BB Tutorials, Faculty

To quickly enter grades in the grade center:

  1. If you’re entering a list of grades manually, be sure you’re in interactive view, not screen reader view.   Interactive view displays the Grade Center similar to an Excel workbook, where you can enter grades and click on Enter to move to the next cell.
  2. Click in the cell, enter the grade and hit Enter to move to the next cell in the column
  3. Once you’ve added your grades in a column, you can go back to each cell, click the chevron (drop down arrow) and add a quick comment.  Grades are automatically saved when you move to the next cell.

BB 9.1: Grade Center – Downloading (Backing Up) Grade Center

May 11, 2012 in BB Tutorials, Faculty

Downloading the Grade Center for each class will let you save a record of grades when the Blackboard classes are deleted.  Blackboard is a course management system, not a storage area for grades.  It’s wise to download your Grade Center prior to dropping students, at midterm and finally at the end of each semester.  To download your grade center:

  1. Scroll to the right of your Grade Center and click on Work Offline then Download
  2. This will open a page where you’ll make some choices.  You can download the Full Grade Center for a permanent record of your class, or you can download Selected Columns, or download User Information Only.
  3. Under Options, the default Delimiter Type is Tab, which works with Excel.  You can leave the default.  Include Hidden Information will download columns and users you have hidden from view.
  4. The Save Location area allows you to designate where you want the file to be saved.  You can save it to My Computer, or to your Content Collection.
  5. Click Submit to open the next screen which contains a DOWNLOAD button
  6. Click the DOWNLOAD button, choose where you want your files saved, click SAVE
  7. You should now be able to open the .xls Grade Center file using Excel
