WCC Concert Band to Present Holiday Concerts
The Wytheville Community College Concert Band, under the direction of Frank Pugh, will present annual holiday concerts on Tues., Nov. 28, 2017, at Marion Senior High School and again on Tues., Dec. 5, 2017, at George Wythe High School. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m.
The performance, entitled “On This Day,” will include several old Christmas favorites including “Away In a Manger” and the “Hallelujah Chorus.” The audience will also be treated to fresh new arrangements of familiar songs in selections like “Christmas a La Big Band” and “We Wish You a Mambo Christmas.” A brisk march and some non-traditional compositions for the season round out the program. Concert goers are sure to find something magical to make a memorable night.
Pugh, now in his fourth year as Director of the WCC Concert Band, is a 1987 graduate of George Wythe High School and has served as the Band Director at Fort Chiswell High School and Middle School for more than 20 years. The band is comprised of community members from all walks of life, including music teachers from area schools, students at the community college, and local high school students.
The concert is free of charge, but donations to the “Bill Svec Endowment” are gladly accepted to help support band costs such as purchasing music.
