****NOTE: ALL AUGUST 23 EVENTS WILL NOW BE HELD AT THE RAIN LOCATION IN THE BALLROOM OF THE WYTHEVILLE MEETING CENTER ADJACENT TO CAMPUS****
Wytheville Community College will mark the end of its year-long 50th Anniversary celebration with a special event on Saturday, August 23, on the main campus in Wytheville. The public is invited.
WCC’s anniversary year has included many special events and activities, including the “Celebrating Success” major gifts campaign, the college’s first 5K race, the WCC Academic Lecture Series, and the first inductions into the WCC Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor.
The August 23 event, scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., will feature free beach music, food, giveaways, and a ceremony for the induction of additional alumni into the WCC Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor. Music will be provided by The Catalinas, the well-known beach music band that performed at the college’s kick-off event last September.
Snyder Auditorium will be the site of the induction of the new Hall of Honor recipients, the announcement of the “Celebrating Success” major gifts campaign total by the WCC Educational Foundation, and the 2013-14 WCC retiree presentations. A picnic will follow at 5:30 p.m., with the free beach music concert beginning at 6 p.m. on the lawn near Carroll Hall.
WCC first opened its doors in the fall of 1963 and was a two-year branch of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University until 1967, when WCC became a part of the newly-established Virginia Community College System.
