The Wytheville Community College Choir will present two holiday concerts in December.
The first concert will be on Tuesday, December 9, at First United Methodist Church, 225 Fulcher Street in Hillsville. The second concert will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 275 East Main Street in Wytheville.
Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend and admission is free.
The concerts will feature “Magnificat” by John Rutter and other beautiful holiday favorites that span several generations. A chamber orchestra will provide accompaniment for the “Magnificat.” The Rainier Trio—Bryan Matheson, Kevin Matheson and Brenda Wittwer—will also perform along with pianist Tina Wilcox and organist Randy Farley. Soloists will be Leslie Mabe, Mike Wilcox, and Anthony Koch.
Cynthia Jackson is the director of the choir.
Now in its second year, the WCC Choir has performed for near-capacity audiences. They have performed with the Knoxville Symphony, Viva in Canto, a women’s chorus from Russia, and the Southwest Virginia Community College Choir. The choir has been invited to sing at Lincoln Center in New York City in May 2015 in a concert featuring composer/conductor Mark Hayes.
