WCC Choir Announces 2017 Holiday Concert Schedule
The Wytheville Community College Choir will present two holiday concerts in the WCC service region this year. Under the direction of Cynthia Jackson, the WCC Choir will proudly present “Gloria: A Holiday Concert” for two special performances.
The first performance will be held Thurs., Nov. 30, at First United Methodist Church, 225 Fulcher Street, Hillsville, Va. The second opportunity to hear this performance will be on Thurs., Dec. 7, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 330 Church Street, Wytheville, Va. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. No admission will be charged for either concert; however, donations to the WCC Choir Endowment Fund will be gladly accepted.
These concerts will feature Gloria by John Rutter, Cantata 142 by Bach and Festival Gloria by Craig Courtney. Soloists for the performance will be Leslie Mabe, soprano; Darren Goad, baritone; Tom Ely, tenor; Angela Campbell, alto; Mary Ann Vipperman, soprano; and Bev Hughes, alto. The choir will be accompanied by a brass ensemble, percussion, and organ, along with pianists Tina Wilcox and Brenda Wittwer.
The WCC Choir has also been invited to provide music for the annual Wythe County Ministerial Association Thanksgiving Service to be held on Tues., Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville. This event is also open to the public at no charge.
The WCC Choir was established in 2013. Since then, the 45 member choir has performed several major choral compositions such as Messiah by Handel, Gloria by Vivaldi, Magnificat by John Rutter, Requiem by Mark Hayes, Requiem for the Living by Dan Forrest, Dark Night of the Soul and Luminous Night of the Soul by Ola Gjeillo and the Virginia premiere of Jubilate Deo by Dan Forrest. The choir has performed at Carnegie Hall and
Lincoln Center in New York City with members of the New York Symphony Orchestra.
