9th Annual Twin County Leadership Initiative to Begin in September

Plans are underway for the ninth annual “Twin County Leadership Initiative” which will begin on September 12, 2017. The theme of this year’s program is “Simply Lead,” and it will include the following sessions: Building a Leadership Team; Developing a Workforce and Soft Skills; Effective Communication; Business Ethics and Etiquette; and Economic Development and Local Leadership. The program is sponsored by Wytheville Community College (WCC), the Crossroads Institute, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Twin County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The first four sessions are scheduled to be held at the Crossroads Higher Education Center on Cranberry Road in Galax on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., beginning September 19 and running through October 10. The final session and a graduation ceremony and reception will be held on October 17.

Program enrollment is open to residents of the City of Galax, Carroll County, and Grayson County or to people who work primarily in these areas. Several slots will be designated for WCC students from these areas.

Interested individuals should complete an application form. Individuals or businesses within the community are also asked to nominate and encourage potential participants to apply.  Representatives from the sponsoring organizations will form a screening committee that will review applications and select approximately 20 participants, with a goal of choosing a diverse group of participants.

The general cost for the Leadership Institute is $50, which covers program materials and instructional costs. Participants will receive “continuing education units” through WCC.
